Summer Camp

At Camp Cedar Hills, traditional summer camp activities like swimming, canoeing, tubing, archery, arts-and-crafts, nature study, worship, music, picnics, drama, fishing, hiking, orienteering, campfires, dance, storytelling, sports, and games are the framework around which Nielsen, camp counselors, and volunteer chaplains work to build the spiritual awareness and growth of young campers.

Like most camps, Cedar Hills provides a wonderful array of outdoor and indoor activities to engage the camper in coming to know themselves within the context of a loving and caring community.  Through our activities, we challenge both campers and staff to ‘stretch themselves.’ We intentionally move people out of their comfort zone to learn more about their personal capacities and God-given gifts. We also challenge people to examine their assumption about who they are in the larger community. What makes Cedar Hills different from many camps is that ‘common thread’ that holds us all together in our unique position in the created order. At Camp Cedar Hills, we try to remove the barriers that keep us from knowing God’s love, as well as the barriers we often place in the way of our coming to love each other. We teach that God loves all of creation and that we have a unique responsibility as humankind to partner with God in reflecting God’s love by paying attention to how we live our lives. This…is the philosophy that drives all of our play and learning. The Camp Cedar Hills community learns this at a feeling level because all at camp are encouraged to model behaviors that are consistent with our belief that God is love and God has blessed all in creation to be worthy recipients of God’s grace.

Each week of camp we can house 60 campers with adequate staff.  The safety and well-being of our youth are our primary concern.  Our professional staff includes a Consultant Physician, Resident Nurses, Resident Chaplains and our Program Directors.  We will train about 30 youth staff this year in the areas of safety, conflict resolution and community living.  At Cedar Hills, we are dedicated to providing the safest environment and highest quality program.

What can I do at Camp?

Athletics, Drama, Archery, Fishing, Hiking, Nature Study, Picnics, Canoeing, Swimming, Arts and Crafts, Music, Christian Education, Worship, Low Ropes Course, Orienteering, Talent Night, Experiential Games and Activities and much more.

Camp provides each child of God the opportunity for self-discovery and "God-discovery" within the context of play.  Camp is a very recreational experience.  We offer a wide variety of activities and many choices for the individual camper to make their experience enjoyable.

Cedar Hills' property is large and rugged.  It requires that our campers and staff be fully ambulatory.  If you have a disability which causes you to question your ability to participate, please call us to discuss your particular concern.  We work hard to accommodate personal needs within the boundaries inherent in our facility.

Partial scholarships are available to help defray the cost of camp.  You can request a scholarship application from the Cedar Hills office and it will be mailed directly to your home.  We do ask that all families make some level of contribution.  It helps us to assist as many youth as possible.  Also, our experience has been that when there is a personal investment on the part of the camper or family, we experience a healthier level of participation by the camper.  Please call us if you need financial assistance.  Your request and information is kept confidential and we will do all we can to have your child be able to attend this wonderful program.
